Musical Monday: Tegan and Sara

I can't believe I've never written a Tegan and Sara blog before. I mean, hello, they're like one of my favorites for about forever. To be honest, since I met Lief, because I hadn't heard of them before.

Tegan and Sara are a band that consists of, yes you've guessed it correctly, Tegan and Sara. The girls are identical twins, both play piano and guitar and they write and sing their own songs. On stage, they have a live band.
Their music carreer started in 1995, as Plunk, though they had no succes. In 1998 they used the recording studio at their school to record two demo-albums. They got a little better known after winning the Garage Warz Battle of the Bands, a local music competition in their hometown Calgary, Canada. They were registered under Sara and Tegan and their first album also came out under that name. Anyway, winning the competition had some hand in them being able to tour with some great names like Neil Young, The Pretenders, The Killers, Bryan Adams and Weezer. They signed with Neil Young's Vapor records in Canada and Sire in the United States.

Their sound is unique. Especially them singing together is kind of their signature. Their songs are mostly relax, yet still uptempo. Sometimes, maybe a bit strange, yes, in a good way.

Needless; fact, both girls are openly gay. In 2013 they partnered up with Coolhaus with whom they created an ice cream sandwich to support equal marriage opportunities. The ice cream was calle Till Death Do Us Part.
